A Study of Common Monitor Configurations
Below are Illustrated Six Configurations From 640x480 to 1600x1200
Your current configuration is likely the one larger than the last total configuration you see.
You may have to minimize your browser's tool bars to get a true measure.
You also have to have the window in a maximized form (double click the Title Bar).
Click here, then read the configuration at the bottom of the page (scroll down), and assume the configuration is the next highest.

Wait for the background image to download (a winter scene).
Oh, the background is a large *.bmp (bitmap) image.  See why *.bmp files are not appropriate for the web.
BTW, once downloaded.... a "refresh" is instantaneous.  With dial-up access, *.bmp files are virtually prohibitive.

The 1982 CGA color monitor display was about this size.
They could display either 12 lines of 40 large characters,
or 24 lines of 80 small characters.
They could display just 16 colors, or just black and white.
All graphics were `drawn` pixel by pixel.
The equivlent pixel by pixel size would be 400 x 300 today.
For a year and a half, I displayed them on a B/W TV.

Today the lowest monitor configuration you can purchase is 640 x 480
Maximize the      window (double click the title bar).  If the above is the last configuration
you can read,      then the configuration is likely 800x600.
  Today's `common minimum` configuration used is 800 x 600 If you can read this, your configuration is likely 1024 x 784.
Today another common configuration is 1024 x 768 If you can read this, your configuration is likely 1152 x 864.
Today there is still another configuration 1152 x 864 If you can read this, your configuration is likely 1280 x 1024.
Today the `common maximum` configuration used is 1280 x 1024 If you can read this, your configuration is likely 1600 x 1200.
Today's less common maximum configuration is 1600 x 1200 If you can read this, your configuration may be 1800 x 1440.
Maximize the window (double click the title bar) to determine your monitor configuration.
